| Response to Fuck the South |
[Mar. 25th, 2006|11:48 pm] |
A lot of motherfuckers have been saying a lot of vulgar shit about those of us who live below the Mason-Dixon. People from the Northeast have been saying that they resent us because they spend too many of their precious tax dollars helping us, and that we have ungratefully thrown this back into their lily-white faces by electing Bush. I think some of that polluted snow has managed to seep into their thick skulls. First of all, not all of us voted for Bush. I voted for Kerry. All my friends voted for Kerry. Every member of my immediate family voted for Kerry. We didnt vote for him because we liked his arrogant, lifeless, and staid Puritan ways. To the contrary, we voted for him because we have always hated Republicans, which is something that cannot be said for yall. Yankee politics always seem confusing and petty to me, so I am hoping that a few of yall can answer a couple of questions I have. My first question is, if yall hate the goddamn Republicans so much, then why the fuck did you people create the damn party in the first place? It aint our fault that you bourgeois assholes felt like big business needed its own party. Secondly, if you motherfuckers up there hate industrial capitalism so fuckin much, then why did you come down here and force it on us? Id like to see some answers to that, because my ancestors supported Jeff Davis. As far as letting the South go, go right ahead. You spoiled motherfuckers have taken this election harder than the Union army took their ass whoopin at Bull Run. We wanted to leave this industrial, money-grubbing, capital-hoardin Republican nation in the first place. You wanna bitch about your tax dollars goin to waste? Dont send em. We never asked you to. You people are the ones who have this idea that we are all destitute and miserable down here. Of course, I guess yall would see it that way since yall have done all you can to make it that way. Go right ahead. Let us go, or even join Canada if you want, because yall will be the ones payin your dues. You might pay a disproportionate amount of federal taxes, but we shed a disproportionate amount of blood in your goddamn foreign wars. Since yall wont mind us relieving the nation of our armed sons and daughters, I am assuming you wont mind us relieving you of all the damn food we grow to feed your sickly asses. Ive also heard a lot of motherfuckers sayin that this country was founded at Plymouth by a bunch of bland, stupid, fanatical Puritans. Well, I disagree. As I recall, we were well on our way, smokin tobacco and reading verses of Homer while you cocksuckers were burning witches. Of course, I could just be an illiterate, backwards Southern redneck with no education. I would answer to that, but I have to get back to writing that essay on Faulkner thats due tomorrow. On a final note, I have noticed some of yall have some strange opinions on the meaning of the Confederate Battle Flag, or the Saint Andrews Cross, as I like to call it. Ill help yall out by giving you the most prevalent meaning it enjoys down here. It means kiss my ass. |

Molly Ivins. I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.
Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone This is not a Dick Morris election. Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges.
The recent death of Gene McCarthy reminded me of a lesson I spent a long, long time unlearning, so now I have to re-learn it. It's about political courage and heroes, and when a country is desperate for leadership. There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief.
If no one in conventional-wisdom politics has the courage to speak up and say what needs to be said, then you go out and find some obscure junior senator from Minnesota with the guts to do it. In 1968, Gene McCarthy was the little boy who said out loud, "Look, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes." Bobby Kennedy -- rough, tough Bobby Kennedy -- didn't do it. Just this quiet man trained by Benedictines who liked to quote poetry.
What kind of courage does it take, for mercy's sake? The majority of the American people (55 percent) think the war in Iraq is a mistake and that we should get out. The majority (65 percent) of the American people want single-payer health care and are willing to pay more taxes to get it. The majority (86 percent) of the American people favor raising the minimum wage. The majority of the American people (60 percent) favor repealing Bush's tax cuts, or at least those that go only to the rich. The majority (66 percent) wants to reduce the deficit not by cutting domestic spending, but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.
The majority (77 percent) thinks we should do "whatever it takes" to protect the environment. The majority (87 percent) thinks big oil companies are gouging consumers and would support a windfall profits tax. That is the center, you fools. WHO ARE YOU AFRAID OF?
I listen to people like Rahm Emanuel superciliously explaining elementary politics to us clueless naifs outside the Beltway ("First, you have to win elections"). Can't you even read the damn polls?
Here's a prize example by someone named Barry Casselman, who writes, "There is an invisible civil war in the Democratic Party, and it is between those who are attempting to satisfy the defeatist and pacifist left base of the party and those who are attempting to prepare the party for successful elections in 2006 and 2008."
This supposedly pits Howard Dean, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi, emboldened by "a string of bad news from the Middle East ... into calling for premature retreat from Iraq," versus those pragmatic folk like Steny Hoyer, Rahm Emmanuel, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman.
Oh come on, people -- get a grip on the concept of leadership. Look at this war -- from the lies that led us into it, to the lies they continue to dump on us daily.
You sit there in Washington so frightened of the big, bad Republican machine you have no idea what people are thinking. I'm telling you right now, Tom DeLay is going to lose in his district. If Democrats in Washington haven't got enough sense to OWN the issue of political reform, I give up on them entirely.
Do it all, go long, go for public campaign financing for Congress. I'm serious as a stroke about this -- that is the only reform that will work, and you know it, as well as everyone else who's ever studied this. Do all the goo-goo stuff everybody has made fun of all these years: embrace redistricting reform, electoral reform, House rules changes, the whole package. Put up, or shut up. Own this issue, or let Jack Abramoff politics continue to run your town.
Bush, Cheney and Co. will continue to play the patriotic bully card just as long as you let them. I've said it before: War brings out the patriotic bullies. In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were "German dogs." They did not, however, go around kicking German shepherds. The MINUTE someone impugns your patriotism for opposing this war, turn on them like a snarling dog and explain what loving your country really means. That, or you could just piss on them elegantly, as Rep. John Murtha did. Or eviscerate them with wit (look up Mark Twain on the war in the Philippines). Or point out the latest in the endless "string of bad news."
Do not sit there cowering and pretending the only way to win is as Republican-lite. If the Washington-based party can't get up and fight, we'll find someone who can. |

| My Quiz on Quizilla |
[Jan. 28th, 2006|12:55 pm] |
Ok, I made a quiz on quizilla, because I was bored and I liked the Spuffy kiss thing so much. I'm a cheapo copycat and I know it, but I really felt like you can show how different kisses can mean different beautiful things. So,my quiz: What Buffy/Angel kiss are you? I got Becoming
The romantic 'final' kiss. Becoming Part 2. This is
epic and tragic. It's also very classical.
You love not just the angst or pain, but the
operatic scale of the Buffy and Angel
romance.
Which Buffy/Angel kiss are you? brought to you by Quizilla |

| New Year Update |
[Jan. 9th, 2006|06:41 pm] |
Well first and foremost, Happy new year!! I hope everyone is having a great break, and I know many friends have already started spring or in quarter/trimester friends cases winter coursework.
So, I went to see two movies throughout break. "King Kong" on Zurain's Bday and "Memoirs of a Geisha" with my deeply beloved cousin, Natasha. King Kong was incredible and MOAG was pretty good too. King Kong is pretty romantic, and it doesn't feature the great gorilla til at least a third through the film, hehe. Geisha was really pretty interesting. I badly want to see Narnia, and I'll watch it with Mom on Saturday (mom talks during movies, so that might be a pain. Hmm...I'll try to go during the day.)
Mom's in a tough spot financially at this point, so I'm turning to the bookstore and getting ripped off again. (The bill comes in a few months, so she can pay it at the end of the term).
I'm looking forward to spring courses. I'm actually so exited about going back.
So, I wound up with a 3.5 for fall semester. (That doesn't include dropping Japanese). I wound up doing well on my arguing an issue paper, and got a 91. i got an A+ in McDonald's class and that was great.
Uh, Xmas gifts: To Zain: Hamper (broke though, i'll get him another one) To Zurain:a box, it was a nice storage thingy, and to make it something resembling fun, i filled it will junk food. Zain took loads of it. It included Reeses, Twix, Starburst, Hugs, Keebler Cookies, Ruffles, Sour Cream and Onion Dip, Zain took the Starburst, chips, and ate several Reeses, Hugs, and Twix. But, you know, the box was the gift in the first place, so lol!(These were for his bday). I got him lights for xmas, but I think they make sleeping harder, haha. To Natasha: Lights for decorating. To Nur: movie gift card To Sadaf: stencil.
I got: Old Navy shirt (nice one, btw), shower gel, lip gloss, Victoria's Secret Gift Card, foot cream, Journal, Hair Dryer. Jane gave me a B&N card, and I brought Don Quixote and two bookmarks. Don Quixote's not that bad in terms of reading difficulty, though.
I went to a Wedding. Texas badly needs trees. It was pretty amazing, and I got one of the best curl jobs thus far. I have to say though, if I get married, I'm not doing it Desi Style).
We went to the Forum, and I liked it immenseley, and |

[Dec. 16th, 2005|04:12 pm] |
There are a lot of things going through my mind. Well, Aaron liked my present, and I'm really happy about that. So, grades have actually been pleasantly surprising. I thought I did terribly on my math final, and I did, but I still got a C+, and I was hoping for a C. I found out that I got an A in history. I was expecting a B+, hoping for an A-, so that was quite the miracle. I just have to finish my creative project and paper 3. I also got a 100 on class participation in English, so Yay!. :-D
The first thing that I can remember this morning is hearing "Get out of my room, bitch! Get out of my room, bitch" and public safety coming. It was the girls next door. Kate and I thankfully don't treat one another like that. It was awfully nice of Trish to post something on my board. But I was just wondering about the content...she mentioned (paraphrasing, not verbatim) that I was much less annoying than the other girls in our hall, and not to listen to what they say. I was just wondering...what kinds of things do they say about me? I'd like to think that I get along pretty well with the girls in our hall, and there is mutual affection between us. I'm not in their close inner circle, but that's fine with me. It wouldn't be that horrific if they did gossip and it turned out that they didn't like me. Because that's happenned over and over again in my life, and I'm grown-up enough to not cry about it. I can deal. I really do believe for some reason that Angela is a genuine friend, and Aaron is too. I think that Ashley and I don't dislike each other. Kate and I get along ok. I mean we're not super close, and I know that my personality, and the fact that she's not really good friends with her roommate are a huge disappointment.
But, I'm happy with the friends I have, and I think I've found some true ones in surprising places. Jane and I have kept talking even though we're at different college, and I, I love her. Hsin Ping actually enjoyed chatting with me in English, and I was pathetic about getting around to it, but I'd like to try and keep in touch. Chad and I talk regularly online. I need to get in touch with Brittney. I really think there's something valueable there. I have classes with Alex next semester, and we agree on all kinds of stuff...seriously! So, I'll probably have a great friendship with her. And there are people that I will meet next semester. I really need to start hanging around more, and staying by myself less. |

| I've been having a Merry Christmas. (Yes, it is 12 days 'til X-mas, but I'm feelin' the Holidays) |
[Dec. 13th, 2005|10:57 am] |

| | happy | ] | I'm SO HAPPY! I feel all warm and fuzzy inside. OK, so I did get things for X-mas from Kate and Angela, which were both awesome. I got a long sleeved shirt from Kate and it was turqoise and had silver. It rocked cuz I need more long sleeved shirts for winter time. Plus, I love the color. She also gave me a jewlery boxI got a smores thingy from Angela and it's freaking AWESOME. There were two things of Hershey's Milk Chocolate, Marshmellow and Cocoa Mix. Graham Crakers too. I'm saving the marshmellows for Hot Chocolate tonight! I have the chocolate and graham crackers together. And there were two cups! I need those cuz I eat cereal and soup in them, haha. Well, my packages arrived. I got the phone I wanted. YAY!!! I love, love, love, love, love it. It also contained Kate's present and she thought it was cute, so I was so happy about that. I gave her a board, and it was pink and green. I went to the mall to get the thingy off, get wrapping paper, and get Angela's gift! I looked for a while, and I got her "To Catch A Thief." It turns out she liked Cary Grant, so I wasn't super way-off. I'm happy about that, and I really hope she enjoys it. I also got my overstock package yesterday, and it contains everything I ordered. It sucked that there was like a scratch on the book for Alex, but it turned out ok. I got Alyssa "The Bell Jar", because I've heard it's a lot like "The Catcher in the Rye", and that's her fave book. I got Ashley a Buffy DVD that was basically big Spike episodes. Yeah, I was watching Buffy in the blue lounge and Ashley came by and commented. Plus, we talked about Buffy, and she seemed to like Spike's character. We agreed that both of Buffy's boyfriends are hot! She said she liked it, so I'm happy. And Alex really appreciated the Crystal Cave. I feel all warm and Fuzzy inside. But, I need to study math. so, TTYL!! |

| School's Out |
[Dec. 9th, 2005|10:53 am] |
So, school is out, because of the snow. Geez I need to put the laundry I did two nights ago in my drawers, I've been lazy about it, and now it's on the floor. That's not good. It's really messy. I only have one class today, but it's still awesome that it's snowing, and I don't have to go to school. I'm going to read, work, and study today. I wonder if the library's closed too. Is probably is. I tried to IM a librarian and nobody was there. Calvin Wang is a really nice helpful one. The library's running though really depends on students, and if the students don't have to go, it's prolly not working. It's weird. I woke up and it was 10:20, I opened my dorm door, and there were no school today notifications. yay! so...whew. I have to email my english prof though. |

| Something more meaningful. |

| | Weezer | ] | Hey, everyone. So, this is me. Life at college is nicer than home. It's free. Whew!! Well, I took a history final, today. I think I got a B- on it, and a B or B+ in the class. I really liked the course and loved Dr. Kincade. Best history class I've taken in a really long time. I went to the writing center, and then visited the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Since I missed the bus, and it was the last bus, I wound up taking a cab. The lady at FCCC was incredibly nice, and really helpful, but I didn't come in totally prepared, but I found an interesting problem that I've like to do bioinformatics work on. Yeah, that's cheezy, but I would like to. I waited in the cold for a really long time, until I saw an alarm clock with the time, and decided to go to Wawa and ordered a cab there. I ate someplace too (popeyes, buffalo chicken was really pretty good). I had a fabulous time at the writing center. My previous visits were useful, but this one was by far the best. It actually stemmed from chatting with Katie. Both of us wanted to redo our projects. I went in today, and the girl had a lot of really useful advice, and I think I'm starting on a road as a writer.
I also bugged a Spanish professor. He was supernice. I'm going to read Don Quixote. I can't wait. It's going to be great. Right now, I'm working on Chronicles of Narnia. I just have to finish my paper in English, and my creative project. I think it's going to be a lot of fun. I'm going to do that tomorrow, and study math over the weekend. So, Discrete math should be ok. I liked the course a lot and I got a 27.5/30 on my second test, largely thanks to group study sessions. I'm mentioned it before, but I really mean it. I love the girls in my hall. They're sweet, fun, and fabulous individuals. I love Alyssa's passion for reading and talking lit with her. Kate the world's greatest roommate. No, I'm not lying. She's sweeter and more accomodating than anyone ever. And she's not mean about my uber-messiness, despite the fact that's she basically a neat freak. We're not best buddies, but she's still the greatest roommate.
So, I have to argue in campaign finance reform. I really would have been better off in terms of being light on me to just argue that campaign finance reform was necessary, but I really wanted to a proposal argument paper. It wouldn't be bad, if Rep. Sheehan replied. But, he didn't. So, I figured out a stand, and I don't care for it. Making the paper more accessable will make it longer, so I should get 4 pages. LOL, I had to strip it down to get it to 5 in my last paper. Shortage of length wasn't a problem so far. It will be soon. I'm soo excited about going to the mall, I'll finally get the security thing off my coat, and I'll be able to wear it. It's lovely, and it'll keep me much warmer. |
